Minimum Education:          BS/BA in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Engineering or related discipline. Commercial/Industrial construction estimating experience with accent on design/build work.  Proven skills in: Math, writing, verbal English communication skills, ability to focus, detail oriented, highly organized. Preferred skills: Supervisory experience.  Proficiency in material costs, LEED philosophies, and construction methodology is a must as well as familiarity with Adobe, MS office Suite and MS Project software.

Overview: Well established, family owned, reputable commercial construction company is currently searching for a seasoned Commercial Construction Estimator. Qualifications include 5-7+ years of construction estimating experience with a strong background in commercial /industrial/municipal and design/build construction work. Building and site construction (Vertical and horizontal) knowledge and experience with complex projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven background in estimating and proposal writing, adept with reading and interpreting building plans and specifications. Should be experienced in leading and directing an assembled team and possess excellent communication skills with a strong math aptitude. Should have excellent verbal English communication skills, ability to focus, be detail oriented and highly organized. Should be a team leader. Proficiency in material costs, LEED philosophies, and construction methodology is essential.

Full Description:

This Estimator will work under the direction of Senior Management and must be able to:

  • Must be detail oriented with strong math skills.

  • Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and develop a trade-oriented scope of work and a competent proposal.

  • Manage and adapt to meet the high stress of tight deadlines.

  • Forecast the budget of the project and prepare bids and cost estimates for every aspect of the project.

  • Create and distribute regular updates on multiple projects bidding and scheduled.

  • Being present and actively participating in pre-bid meetings and site tours.

  • Write proposals. (Assist with all needed document submissions for bid qualification)

  • Write technical sections of proposals.

  • Track proposals and performance databases, write scopes of work and proposals as well as other documentation, update existing databases, making sure that proposals in process are in compliance with instructions.

  • Create, issue and track and follow up on all RFI’s and needed responses. Distribute key information in a timely manner to all bidders.

  • Must be a team player and have a team approach.

  • Must have skill set necessary to create and modify both Gantt and CPM schedules.

 

 

Other pertinent duties include:

  • Review bid services for opportunities.

  • Review plans and specifications; prepare quantity take-offs on assigned projects.

  • Solicit vendor, suppliers, subcontractors to provide proposals/bids for assigned bids.

  • Obtain multiple bids for each subcontractor scope.

  • Review and analyze bids for conformance to project plans, specifications, price, material quality and related items.

  • Discusses and resolves any questions with subcontractors prior to submission of final estimate.

  • Follow approved estimating practices and established protocols consistent with company guidelines. Ensure such practices result in the most complete estimates possible while ensuring financial objectives are met.

  • Utilize provided Microsoft programs and estimating software to calculate, record and track all estimates.

  • Compute cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.

  • Accurately price change order work as requested for on-going work.

  • Ensure that the information required to begin in the estimating process is accurate and available to those assigned.

  • Ability to pay particular attention to detail, good decision-making skills and the ability to approach and handle problems strategically.

  • Carry out other duties as assigned or required by management.

  • Effective communication skills to speak with clients, Project Managers, Assistant Project managers, Superintendents, Subcontractors, Vendors/Suppliers, contract writing team and Senior Management.

  • Availability to travel to pre-bid meetings and meetings with potential customers. Need to possess ability to create trade scopes of work and field measure potential projects.

 

  • Job Type: FULL TIME
